8-Day Great Wildebeests Migration Mid-Range Safari

Journey Highlights

This 8-day tour takes you to the famous northern circuit parks. You spend 4 days in the Serengeti, the largest and recognized for the annual migration of thousands of wildebeest and zebras. Then, the tour goes to the Ngorongoro Crater, an absolute highlight, with beautiful landscapes and easy game viewing. Finally, the tour goes to Tarangire National Park, smaller than the Serengeti but famous for its large elephant herds. The tour ends with a short hike to the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day by Day

Arrival

On arrival, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Accommodation before the safari starts can be arranged at an extra cost.


Day 1: Pick-up from the Airport, Transfer to Arusha

We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy an optional short city tour to get a first impression of Tanzania before your safari begins. In the evening, we will brief you on the full program for the coming days and answer any questions. If time allows, you may also choose an optional short hike to Kilima Moto for a beautiful sunset view.

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we will depart around 8:00am for Tarangire National Park (about 2 hours). Tarangire is known for its ancient baobab trees and large elephant herds, giving you a strong safari start with excellent wildlife viewing. You will enjoy a game drive following the best wildlife sightings, with chances to see giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and many other animals, while predators may appear depending on the day’s movement. We will stop for a picnic lunch at the river picnic site, where you can enjoy the scenery while watching wildlife nearby. After lunch, you will continue the game drive before exiting the park in the late afternoon and driving to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Karatu to Central Serengeti National Park (Seronera)

After breakfast, we will drive to Serengeti National Park (approximately 6 hours including stops), passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We will stop briefly at the gate to enjoy a breathtaking crater view for about 20 minutes. Along the way, you may choose an optional visit to a Maasai village to learn about local daily life (additional cost). You will arrive in Central Serengeti in the late afternoon and begin a game drive in the Seronera area, one of Serengeti’s richest wildlife zones. The game drive continues toward evening, giving you a chance to experience the sunset on the plains and possibly spot active predators before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Northern Serengeti National Park (Mara River)

After an early breakfast, we will depart with a picnic lunch and travel north through the Serengeti ecosystem, exploring broader areas while following wildlife movement. Today’s game drive focuses on the Mara River, where migration herds often gather, and where river activity may occur depending on timing and luck. You will continue game viewing throughout the day before returning to your camp in the evening for dinner and overnight, with chances of wildlife sightings even near the camp area.

Day 5: Northern Serengeti National Park (Mara River)

Today you will return toward the Mara River to continue searching for migration activity and wildlife concentrations in the northern plains. You may see large formations of wildebeests as they gather, move, and prepare for possible crossings, while predators often stay close to the herds. After an early start and full-day game viewing with picnic lunch, you will return to camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Serengeti (Seronera) to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

After an early breakfast, you will begin a game drive as you travel south toward the Seronera region of Serengeti. This drive offers more chances to enjoy Serengeti wildlife before leaving the park later in the day. In the late afternoon, you will exit Serengeti and continue toward the Ngorongoro Crater area (about 2 hours). Your lodge is located on the crater rim and offers a spectacular view, making it a perfect place to relax after a rewarding safari day.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

After an early breakfast, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater around 6:15am for a game drive on the crater floor. The day is focused on exploring this unique ecosystem with strong chances to see many animals, and with luck you may spot the black rhino. After lunch and continued game viewing, you will ascend the crater and return to the lodge area. You will then pack and drive back to Arusha for your overnight stay.

Day 8: Materuni Waterfalls & Kikuletwa Hot Springs, Drop-off

After breakfast, you will travel to Materuni for a beautiful short hike of about 2 hours to the waterfalls, enjoying lush vegetation and scenic views along the way. After the hike, you will visit a local coffee experience, where you will learn about coffee processing and enjoy lunch. Later, you will proceed to Kikuletwa Hot Springs for relaxation before heading to the airport for your departure.

Main Destination: Foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro

Accommodation: No accommodation (End of tour)
